For the November 2000 election, the Greenspace Alliance combined efforts with the Federation of Citizens’ Associations, Transport 2000 Ontario, Ottawa-Carleton’s Urban Ecosystem Stewardship Council and seven other groups to organize a mayoralty Debate on the Environment.  The debate was held on November 2 in a packed Andrew Haydon Hall.  Moderator was John Lacharity, then host of CBC Radio’s Ottawa Morning program.  The event was televised by Rogers TV and mayor Chiarelli had graciously offered simultaneous translation.
