Staff came to Planning Committee on March 26, seeking direction to table a draft in June, confirmation that there was no need for more employment and other non-residential land, to let them know that the LEAR update is delayed, and to table two important reports: an update of the Comparative Municipal Fiscal Impact Analysis by Hemson Consulting Limited (680 KB, 81 pp.), and an update of the Employment Lands Study,

Official launch of “Building a Liveable Ottawa” – January 29, 2013

“Building a Liveable Ottawa 2031” was launched at City Hall on January 29.  From an environmental protection point of view, the best news coming out of the event was that once again staff is proposing to forbid country lot subdivisions in any form. (Even so, some immediate concerns arise, noted below.) The other good news is that, in response to a question, Planning Committee chair Peter Hume ensured that mapping

Employment Lands Study (2)

A draft report (8.3 MB) became available on May 3, 2016. The final report (9.2 MB) became available on September 7 and was the subject of a staff presentation (43 slides, 3.1 MB) at Planning Committee on September 13.  It does not appear to vary much from the draft report.  (The staff report is here.) The key finding remains that Ottawa has enough Employment Lands (read: Business Parks) to meet

Greenspace Alliance urges Council to appeal OMB Decision

12 March 2016 Today the Greenspace Alliance sent a letter to Council, urging it to appeal a Decision issued by the Ontario Municipal Board on February 23, 2016.  The letter argues that the Decision has dire implications for Council’s control over land use planning, instead ceding the agenda to land owners. Moreover the Decision sets the stage for further abrogation of Council’s authority when hearings on the appeals of Official
