Application for a Permit to Take Water

On December 9, 2007, the Friends of Leitrim Wetland issued a second media release, encouraging the public to object to a new proposal for a Permit To Take Water at Leitrim Wetland that would see 17 million litres of water per day drained from the wetland for the next ten years. LEITRIM ACTION ALERT — 7 October 2008

Protect Leitrim Wetland: please write to the Ministry of the Environment to oppose the developers’ application for a 10-year drainage permit (deadline: October 16). On July 11, 2008, developers submitted a proposal to pump up to 17 million litres per day for ten years from the Leitrim Wetland area (EBR # 010-4134). Court decision on cost awards

Meanwhile, on December 10, the Divisional Court issued its Decision on the demand for cost awards.  Finding that the Greenspace Alliance is not a public interest litigant, it agreed with the City’s but reduced the award to the developers to $25,000 “in recognition of the [Alliance’s] limited means.”  The Alliance is seeking leave to appeal this cost award decision to the Ontario Court of Appeal.

Rezoning for Phase 2 of Findlay Creek approved
