Letter to the Editor, West Carleton EMC

The following letter was published in the West Carleton EMC weekly paper of February 22, 2008, along with the media release of the Carp River Coalition:

“Dear Editor,

We, the citizens of Ottawa, owe a tip of the hat to Ted Cooper, who truly exemplifies a P. Eng’s duty to the public’s welfare. While the city is promising a full and independent investigation, let’s hope that it does not begin and end with housing developments near the Carp River.

I would suggest that the city’s revolving door policy, whereby city engineers and planners are working for the city one day and the next day they are working for engineering firms and developers who deal with city hall bureaucrats and/or politicians, is detrimental to the citizens of Ottawa.

To stop this activity, there must be a mandatory cooling off period between the time an individual leaves the city’s employ and starts work for any company dealing with the city.

Doug Arnold
