In Memoriam Amy Kempster
September 7th, 1929 – January 17th, 2022
It is with sorrow that we learned of the passing of our long time friend and colleague, Amy Steele (Kempster). Past co-chair and long serving board member of the Greenspace Alliance, she remained active as a member into her 90s. Her time with the Greenspace Alliance was just part of her nearly four decades of volunteer service, which saw her also take on leadership roles as President of the Champlain Park Community Association and Co-president of the Federation of Citizens’ Associations of Ottawa. She received many awards for her service to the community, including a lifetime achievement award from the Federation of Citizens Associations of Ottawa, recognition for her thirty years of service to the Champlain Park Community Association and the Mayor’s Award for volunteer service.
Her conviction, courage and good humour were legendary. She was an inspiration and a passionate defender of neighbourhoods and the environment.
A Celebration of Amy’s Life took place at 11:00 am Friday, May 20. It was attended by many. Here is the memorial handout. The obituary, including access to the photo show and livestream of the Celebration can be accessed from here.
A memorial tree for Amy was planted at Champlain Park. A ceremony to unveil a memorial plaque for her was held there on December 17 2023.
