General Meeting

MINUTES

October 17, 2022

Members present: Paul Johanis (chair), Nicole DesRoches, J.P. Unger, Erwin Dreessen, David McNicoll, Iola Price

The meeting commenced at 7:00 pm.

  1. Adoption of the agenda

The proposed agenda was agreed upon, moved by Iola, seconded by Nicole.

  1. Administrative items

a. Minutes of the September 19, 2022 meetings (for approval)

Moved by Erwin, seconded by David. Carried.

b. Association reports

Paul reported that the Ontario Forest Council was holding a virtual conference on November 24. He also reported that he is now a member of a newly formed FCA Committee on External Relations.

c. Treasurer’s report

Paul presented a detailed accounting of the revenues and expenses for the Chief Pinesi Portage trail project and sought the advice of members on the preparation of the final report to Community Foundations of Canada. Paul also sought approval for our annual filing with Corporations Canada, a $12 expense if done online. Unanimously approved without motion.

  1. Policy instruments

a. Municipal elections

Paul reported on the GA’s final candidate endorsements, which were released to the media, and communicated to the GA list, POP partners, and to the candidates themselves. Many have acknowledged and thanked us. The endorsements were also shared on social media with our 688 Twitter and 527 Facebook followers. In the run up to the election, we were also successful in having a letter to the Editor and an OpEd published, both restating our opposition to further urban expansion, as per our discussion at the September 19 general meeting.

b. Comprehensive Zoning By-law review

Paul reported that he would be attending the next meeting of the stakeholders’ pre-consultation meeting on October 25.

Nothing to report.

b, Major urban greenspace

i. Pinesi portage trail project update:

Paul reported that the unveiling ceremony for the mural was be held at New Edinburgh Park on September 28. It was well attended, with very good speakers and also garnered good media coverage.

c. Other greenspace

Nothing to report
