Alex Cullen has analyzed municipal campaign contributions for the 2003, 2006 and 2010 elections:
+ for 2010, his report comes in two parts: the text (46 pp, 626 KB), and the tables (18 pp., 787 KB).
A few highlights from the 2010 report:
+ two candidates for a Council seat did not file, yet they came in second in their race. We’ll never know how they financed their effort;
+ it cost about $25,000 to win a Council seat; non-winners spent $7,000 or less;
+ in both the mayoralty and councillor races, corporations financed about 20% of all campaign contributions. 72% of that went to winners; 20 winners took 3/4 of all corporate contributions.
For the 2014 election, the Ottawa Citizen (Matthew Pearson and Joanne Chianello, March 27, 2015) analyzed campaign contributions. See also two articles by Joanne Chianello:
+ Contributors to Ottawa’s municipal election campaigns broke rules (April 17, 2015)
