Parliament Hill 1927

 

The elm is quite small and hard to see in this picture, just a dark shadow to the left of the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald. But this aerial photograph from 1931 shows exactly where it is. 

 

 

This still from a 1938 film reel also shows the tree in the distance. In this case, its shadow on the ground is more visible than its crown. 

 

And in this image from a 1968 newsreel, our elm is visible in silhouette, behind the RCMP officer and PM Trudeau Sr.
