The propositions:
1. Support for a strong site alteration by-law, with emphasis on “strong.”
2. Renewed commitment to an annual allocation towards an environmental lands acquisition fund.
3. Standing firm in support of the prohibition against future country lot subdivisions.
4. The City’s Advisory Committees should be genuine bridges between the public and Council.
David Chernushenko: “Yes, I support your four propositions. I am not certain that so much should be expected of the Advisory Committees, however, as this approach has proven challenging and there may be more and better ways to engage and learn from the public than in this format.”
Scott Blurton:
#1: “I support a strong site alteration bylaw.”
#2: “I’m supportive of acquiring more green spaces in the city but with the 2% cap on raising property taxes, I am focused on my five priorities of youth unemployment, smart development, transportation choice, mental health and poverty reduction. For the Environmental Lands Acquisition Fund, we may have to examine other sources of fundraising if we wish to increased the fund.”
#3: “I will not support further country lot subdivisions. We need to support the City’s growth through intensification and density within our current boundaries and not through more sprawl.”
#4: “We may need to begin embracing new technology in order to provide more opportunities for public input and consultation while ensuring that advisory committees can report to city council in a reasonable amount of time. In my personal case, Pinterest was extremely useful in developing my transportation choice platform.”
Espoir Manirambona: “i strongly support all four propositions. im a big fan of greenspaces 🙂 id like to see a lot more of them. luckily, were building a mvt for environmental sustainability and that means significantly reducing production/consumption and the use of land for commercial purposes. we are democratizing our society in a way that empowers ottawans and local groups to build a new more sustainable, democratic and egalitarian economy that naturally preserves and expands greenspaces. we are using the municipal gvt as a tool towards that end. us having this discussion is part of that process :)”
